‘Best foot (or paw) forward!’

Grappling with my own particular filing system is a matter that definitely needs taking in hand. There is, I believe, in the seemingly chaotic state of my filing trays, a grain of organisation. I say this because generally once I am in the region of where I believe a particular note might be, it is but moments before, with deft rummaging, I’m able to grasp the desired sheet and thus bring the matter to light!

Well okay it might take a tad longer, and a few choice words, but generally the result is positive.

I’m a terror for saving odd scraps with my jots upon them. Sometimes this can amount to the start of a thought or, an obscure fact that interested me at the time. This at best can be termed the jottings of an enquiring mind, there is, alas, little of the genius on these relics, just occasionally a note that brings a wry smile, a possible titter, or a look of complete dumbfoundedness – if such a word really lives!

I have scrawled elsewhere in these ramblings that I am at heart a squirrel, and these rediscovered ‘acorns’ are but small fare in the general day to day ‘nosh’ of life.

The lad known to us as the boy Bing has little in the way of extra accoutrements in his ‘pleased to see you guv, how about a walk or such’ way of life. He is like many of today’s youth, a product of what can be gleaned from the ‘box’ in the corner of the room, and the general chatter of folk around him. Not for this lad the dry pages of scholastic prognostications. The ‘mysteries’ of life can be confronted, as and when such posers are tossed before you – or not, as the case may be!

Bing meanwhile, has been busying himself in the garden, as best he can. The past week or so he’s become known as ‘Bingo blue boot’ and then ‘The Green Welly Lad!’ This, as a result of having returned from a stroll with Tom, it was discovered he’d cut a pad on his rear nearside paw. A trip to the Vets saw him suitably booted (well actually, bandaged) with blue and then on the next visit a green wellington! (well another bandage this time in green!)

This has meant that the lads perambulations have been shorter than usual, and, because of the damp weather of late, he’s been wearing a strong plastic bag over the appendage under treatment!

Regulars will know the Boy Bing is of a sunny disposition, and therefore all this has been taken in his stride (so to speak).

Meanwhile……

‘You still sorting even more paper guv?’

‘I am indeed young lad. I’m thinking of maybe starting another notebook, in which I can jot down the jottings on these bits of paper.’

‘I see.’

‘That way young Bing…..’

‘You generate even more paper, old poop?’

‘Well, I fully expect to get rid of the original scraps.’

‘And hounds might fly guv!’

‘I say that's a bit harsh young fruit.’

‘Really guv?’

I try to look suitably hurt, but the lad winks, wags his tail and wrinkles his nose and rests his chin on my knee.

‘Cuppa guv?’

‘M’mmmm that sounds good.’

‘And snacks all round?’

‘Very likely young scamp….very likely.’

But I say all this to a wagging tail, with a green coloured nearside rear paw, heading to the kitchen!

Hey-ho.
