He suddenly pulls his head back, wrinkles his nose and watches a large bumblebee, drone away to another flower.
‘Crumbs guv, that was a bigg’un!’
He looks over at me, and I try to look as if his sudden comment has made me look up from the paper I’ve been pretending to read.
‘I find them such amiable chaps Bing.’
‘Really?’
‘Oh yes.’
‘Give me a f’rinstance guv.’
‘Well….um…..ah yes well, if one of those chaps should venture into the house, it is quite easy to show them the way out.
‘Not like Stingy-wapsits and Whizzers eh?’
‘Quite…..quite.’
Off goes Bing on another circuit, and I decide another cup of coffee would be rather nice.
As I wait for the kettle to boil, I can see the lad has found a warm patch of grass in the sun, and is currently having a gentle roll before taking a quick snooze, or ‘forty wags’ as he calls it. Meanwhile, I’m delighted to roust out a Kit Kat and, mug in hand return to my seat. The lad is dozing. There follows, the quietest rip of confectionery wrapper and instantly Bing is alert and at my side.

‘Hello, hello, hello…….having a snack old guv?’
‘Well just a….’
‘Anything for a real pal, and decent egg if ever there was one?’
‘Possibly.’
A Bing type snack is proffered and gently accepted.
‘I suppose you’ll be hoovering the grass soon?’
‘Well I guess it would be a good idea to get the old Flymo out and have a quick session.’
‘Well let me know when, and I’ll go in and see if there’s any twenty-twenty ‘crackit’ on the box.’
Bing is not a fan of Flymo’s or *Henry’s.
‘Right-ho Bing.’
For the moment though, we’ll just take it easy and savour the warmth of this lovely morning.
My companion has found a fresh area of warm grass….rolling has recommenced.
On the whole, taking everything into account, by and large, and so forth and…..
‘Suchlike guv?’
‘Certainly Bing, certainly.’

It’s been a kind, and in this corner of Lowtown, generous summer. morning.
*For those that don't know Henry...here he is!
