Having finally managed to cut the green stuff, which in this weather laughingly calls itself a lawn, I decided it was time for a brew and possibly a little treat.
It was while reposing on my favourite couch, carefully nibbling around the edges of a two fingered Kit-Kat....(well we all have our little pleasures) when my furry pal sidled through the lounge garden door clutching his current 'favourite' stick!
'Bing, I fear Alison will have something to say to you if she wanders in.'

'Really, old puffer - I just plan to gently gum it, there will be no mess.......we can’t all have Kit-Kats don’t y'know.'
Suitably contrite, I placed the offending confection next to my steaming cuppa and returned to my crossword.
M'mmmmm.........'
'Stuck?'
'Well no not really....just pondering the possibility of a trick answer.'
'I see.'
Time passed……
'Oh all right cocky, I might be a tad unsure of an answer.'
'Stuck.'
'Well yes if you must know, I just cant make head or tail of this clue..... 12 across : Reverse taxi out of cutbacks and you'll get marooned!'
Bing lent his chin on the stick and gazed at me......a look of patience and great benevolence on the noble visage.
'Well old poop, another name for taxi is cab, b-a-c backwards out of cutbacks, and what are you left with?
'C U T K S' I blurted out!
The boy blinked.
'Now what word does that make, that means marooned?'
'Um.....er......oh....Stuck!'

'Exactly!'
Well folks I was flabbergasted.........the boy Bing rested his chin on my knee.
‘As that chap in the advert says “simples!”
‘Bingo I cant thank you enough…though where you get this knowledge for crosswords from is frankly extraordinary!’
The lad picked up his 'favourite' and wandered back out into the garden, as Alison entered....
'Has Bingo been eating his sticks in here again'
‘M’mmmm?’
'It looks like a family of beavers have been at work!'
'Well no he just um.....’ I gazed down at the bits of chewed wood.
'Honestly you spoil him terribly.........I see you found the Kit-Kats?'
'I turned to the cooling cuppa with familiar red wrapper and neatly rolled ball of silver paper....
'Um......yes I guess I did.'
Alison frowned and continued.
’By the way, have you seen todays newspaper?'
'I left it on the kitchen table, I didn't want to see the answers to yesterday crossword.'
'Well it's not there.'
'M'mmmmmm......'
Later as I was wandering over the ‘lawn’ I spotted something white in a flowerbed, and was staggered to find it was the daily paper.....open on the answers page!
I have my suspicions but lets face it who'd believe me?
