It appeared to be a good day to get out the tin of wood stain, and freshen up the woodwork on the greenhouse. As usual this ‘delightful’ English summer has suddenly closed in, and it’s trying to rain!
Bingo is here today, and very interested in my work, when not charging upstairs to look out of a front bedroom window, at the children going to school, and more importantly a cat that’s patrolling the front gardens and drives of the houses opposite.
‘Wotcha guv, still at it?’
‘Well Bing I fear it’s going to rain any minute, so I don’t want the wood stain to get wet before it dries….if you follow my drift?’
‘You know best, I guess. I have to say I hadn’t noticed that the greenhouse needed coating.’
‘It did Bing. Yet another task that needed doing, probably last year.’
‘The thing is old poop why are they called greenhouses? Lets face it there’s no green on it.’
I think it’s the contents that the name refers to.’
‘I see.’
This year Bing has been interested in the progress of various new garden plants, that have been ‘brought on’ by the green fingered member of the household. Yes you’re right, it’s not me. General labouring is my job, and frankly it’s as much as this old poop can be trusted with.
‘Will you be hoovering the lawn later guv?’
(I’ve long given up trying to explain the difference from indoor hoovering and outdoor mowing.)
‘Probably young lad, we seem to have a goodly crop of daisies once again.’
‘M’mmm.’
‘I fear the grass at Wimbledon has not a daisy or clump of clover in sight.’
It’s Wimbledon fortnight once again, and Bing has reminded me that, we never did hear from the LTA regarding his thoughts on squeakers in tennis balls and Ball dogs. As you may be aware, being a hound the lad can get mightily obsessed by such matters, and so I’m grateful when I manage to change the subject to the current Tour de France.
What am I saying! Again, if you’ve followed the lad for a while, you will know his thoughts regarding ‘Tykes on Bikes!’ In short I have successfully lurched out of one minefield, and trundled into another!
And just a while ago I was wood staining the greenhouse.
Fortunately the boy Bing comes to the rescue.......
'Time for a snack or three guv?'
Another good 'un :)
