Pondering 'an Arthur' and such.......

‘So Bing, how are you getting on with your new mate?’

The lad has recently welcomed a newcomer to his home in, the shape of Arthur.

He is sitting in front of me and turning my question around in his mind, an operation requiring narrowing of eyes, the odd ‘um’ and a slight wag of his tale.

‘Well guv, it’s all rather strange and so forth.’

‘Ah.’

‘I reckon having an Arthur is a reasonable addition, but so far there hasn’t been much in the way of action. Apart from scoffing loads of bottles of something or other, sleeping most of the day and then being restless through the night and so forth, an Arthur is a tad puzzling.

‘I see.’

‘Fortunately old poop, when it comes to snoozing, forty wags and power naps, I’m the shop for it!’

‘I see.’

‘But when I’m awake, I’m all action.’

‘Action?’

‘Certainly guv, certainly.’

‘M’mmm. Well of course you have to take into account that young Arthur is a baby, and it will be some months before he's trundling about.’

‘I see.’

‘Unlike yourself, who has all the advantages of four legs, Arthur will take time to sort out the art of two-legged travel.’

‘Crumbs.’

‘Quite.’

The lad wanders slowly about the room, having a very deep ponder.

Finally, he arrives back in front of me, and rests a paw on my knee.

‘When you say take some time, what sort of time are we talking about?’

‘Well, um….er it varies from……...’

‘Arthur to Arthur guv?’

‘Well yes, I suppose.’

‘Oh.’

Bing is now deep in thought, and I finally decide to chip in with some added information.

‘Let's say Bing, that by next Christmas, there should be a certain amount of trundling about.’

‘Next Christymus!!!!?????’

‘Yes.’

‘Crumbs, that’s a long time aint it guv?’

‘True Bing, but these things can’t be rushed.’

‘Stone me guv, I’m mighty glad I’m not an Arthur, I’d go nuts if I couldn’t be out and about and so forth.’

‘There is only one Bing……Bing.’

The lad wink’s and settles on the couch, gives one long sigh, and casts and approving eye over the Winter Olympics…….

Me? Well I’m rather pleased, as yet again, I’ve managed to satisfy the lads enquiry! (With reference to ‘an Arthur!’)
