Friday’s are particularly interesting in Lowtown.
I say this because not only are we nearing the end of another week, (I’m told this is the same the World over) but also it is a day when an old poop is visited by Bing, who routinely puts this old duffer through his paces!
We are generally spoilt for sporting ‘action’ on the ‘box.' In recent times we have cast a casual eye over the efforts of various footballers, games of Darts, Snooker - from various locations around the world - and Tennis (although Bingo still gets frightfully annoyed when tennis balls fail to squeak!)
The Winter Olympics are now past, and so all the Ski Jumping, down-hills, slaloms and as Bing calls it, ‘Tea tray sliding,’ will slither to a halt.
Other sports continue of course. Bikes, motor bikes and racing cars of all kinds, rugby, Australian rules football and so forth and most definitely suchlike, and you can see our appetites are sated by ‘The World of Sport!’
‘The thing is guv, I’m still puzzled by those rock pushers?’
‘Shot putters?’
‘Oh no, they only seem to play in warm weather.’
‘Rock pushers?…….um er…..’
‘On ice old poop!’
‘On ice?’
‘Yes, and as they push their rocks they grab their brooms and start sweeping up!’
‘Ah, you mean Curling?’
‘Do I?’
‘Yes I believe so. They launch their rocks up the ice rink, rather like indoor bowls.’
‘If you say so guv.’
‘Oh I do……..I do, I do, I do, I do……..I do!’
‘M’mmm.’
‘So what’s the problem?’
‘Well it’s like this oh ancient one. Once again, folks seem to have no idea about how interesting things would be if, their rocks made a whistling sort of noise as they whoosh up the ice, and then a series of honks and squeaks as they collide with the other rocks!’
‘Well blow me down, I do see what you mean.’
‘Thank goodness for that old fruit.’
‘Next time it comes on Bing, lets see what sound effects we can find, and we’ll accompany their efforts with a suitable cacophony!’
AND…..that is why quite recently, had you been present, you would have witnessed our efforts……..I have to admit once again the musings of my pal are in truth, much more. Frankly, I truly believe the sport of Curling is the poorer for the lack of sound effects!
